Hello!
You're very welcome to the official website of Thomas Dunning's Hoot Night!
Good Lawd, it's only been 8 YEARS in the making! Ok, what is this all
about? More of Dunning's profane need for attention? No, no, no. That's
elsewhere. Here you will find information about all your favorite Hoot
Night performers as well as links to some of their websites. There is
also a page here for you to make your Hoot Night theme suggestions! How
fun is that? We're working on creating an archive of the Hoots and may
even have some audio or video files for you to enjoy. Not yet, but soon!
I'm really excited about a new Hoot feature called the Hoot Night Poetry
Challenge. Just as the musicians are challenged to come up with songs
that relate to the theme, we are challenging all those who know how to
write to come up with a poem that relates to the theme.
Now, just
in case you've been sleeping (or maybe you've been busy getting a lobotomy
so you could pretend the detainees in Cuba are not POW's) the Hoot Nights
have been running at Schubas Tavern on the north side of Chicago since
January of 1994 when they were brought here from Austin, Texas by musicians
Michael Hall and Susan Voelz. Was that a run on sentence? Although Hoot
Night is in permanent residence at Schubas, related events have taken
place all over the city including shows at The Chicago Cultural Center
and The North Halsted Market After a way-too-brief six-month hiatus, the Hoot Nights return on January 30, 2002 with The Cosmos Hoot, songs about the stars, planets, moons and suns! I hope. Show starts at 8pm and the cover is $6. In other exciting Hoot Night news, I'll be joined by a super foxy co-host for the night, Mr. Mitch Marlow. Meow! Also, get ready for the arrival of SETTLER in March! I met this band in Dublin back in October and invited them to come to Chicago to play the Hoot Night. They took me up on it. Who knew? I don't mind, you know me...not one to turn my nose down at having 5 Irishmen sleeping in my apartment! We've missed you, we thank you for your on-going support and participation in the Hoot Nights and we look forward to seeing you on January 30th. Oh, and remind me to tell you about my Adventures In Cat-Sitting from the holidays. Happy New Year! Thomas Dunning xo |
