The Hoot Poetry Challenge
Welcome to the Hoot Night's Poetry Challenge!
We like to give our audience the illusion of an interactive experience...no, no, I'm just kidding. The Hoot Nights are totally interactive and I thought we could all benefit from a little exposure to some local poetry! I, for one am feeling soooooo dumbed down...I mean, its gotten so bad that even the heads of state don't know what a Prisoner of War is. (Crikey, is Dunning still going on about that?)
Anyway, as the musicians are challenged with each new and daunting theme, we now challenge our audience members who know how to write or at least speak well, to compose a poem, a verse, a wee little sonnet if you will, that somehow relates to the coming Hoot's theme. At every Hoot Night, I will announce the theme for the next show. After the show, you, Oh! Poets of Hootville, will run home and dash off some words that hopefully rhyme.
All poems entered into the challenge will be judged by me, your Sovereign Ruler of All That is Hoot. The winning entrant will be invited to read their poem at the coming Hoot Night!
If the poet be shy and ill at ease with attention, they may designate the Hoot performer of their choice to read their poem in their stead. We begin this new season with the wonderful news that Chicago's own Grand Dame of Poetry, Mr. Thax Douglas, will be joining us in March! (He was supposed to read some of his work at The Cosmos Hoot in January but there's a punk rock show at The Fireside Bowl so he can't make it. I totally understand!)
So, here's what you do...see that big blank area down there...just write a poem once you find out the theme. Hit submit. It will be emailed to me and I'll read it. Then, if you win you'll feel really good and all validated like...and if you lose, you get to enter again next time! Whoo hoo!
Thanks for playing. Don't let the poems go away!!! We need the poems!!!!! God save this dying art!!!!!!!!
Sorry.
Love you, mean it.
